Information for prospective members

Happy Larry is a club of 20 memberships that exists for the purpose of providing affordable accommodation so that members can enjoy Mt Beauty and environs. Happy Larry is an incorporated body, with membership fees due and payable at the start of each calendar year. Decisions regarding the running of the club are guided by the members and made at Committee meetings and at Annual General Meetings (AGMs). The AGM is typically held in October of each year.

Funds come from:

  • an annual subscription for each membership (whether single or joint), currently $250
  • an annual subscription for each junior membership, currently $10
  • a maintenance fee, currently $200 (see below)
  • accommodation charges paid by members for use of the accommodation by members and their guests;

The fees are reviewed each year at the AGM.

Members are provided with the option of doing a working bee, typically equivalent to one weekend’s work. As an alternative, members can pay a maintenance fee in lieu of attending that year’s working party.

Membership

There is a total of 20 full memberships within the club at any time. Each full membership may have one or several members, with the following classes:

  • Full membership available to persons 18 years and older. A full membership may be held as either:
    • Single membership: held by one eligible person or
    • Joint membership: available to two eligible persons in a domestic relationship (but with one vote for the membership, not for each member).
  • Associate membership: A person holding a single membership may sponsor another person over the age of 18 as their associate ‘non-voting’ member.
  • Junior membership: available to children of single or joint members who are aged 18 years or younger, or who are full-time students aged 25 years or younger. Junior members may not vote at any general meeting but may have other rights as determined by the Committee or by resolution at a general meeting. Once over the age limit, junior members’ status reverts to that of a guest.

New full memberships arise through transfers from existing full members. The cost of the membership is a matter of negotiation between the potential member and the departing member. On transfer there should be no outstanding fees owing to the club.

To apply for full membership a person strikes an agreement with a departing member and then submits an application to the Committee. A written request regarding the transfer is concurrently made by the departing member.
